A business comes to us with a familiar complaint: the analytics show a few thousand visitors a month, the ads are running, the rankings are decent — and the phone is not ringing. In nearly every case the diagnosis is the same. The traffic is fine. The page is failing at the moment of decision.
Start with the phone, because everyone else does
Between 80% and 90% of local traffic in Pune arrives on a mobile, often on a mid-range Android on a patchy connection. Open your own site on a phone that is not yours, on mobile data, and time it. If the first meaningful content takes more than three seconds, a meaningful share of visitors are gone before they see anything you paid to show them.
- Compress and correctly size every image — oversized hero images are the most common single cause of slow Indian mobile loads.
- Cut unused scripts, chat widgets and tracking tags you no longer look at.
- Make sure the largest element on screen loads first, not last.
- Test on 4G, not office wifi.
Answer the four questions in the first screen
Within five seconds a visitor must be able to answer: what do you do, do you do it near me, can I trust you, and how do I contact you. If your hero says "Welcome to our website" or "Excellence in every project", you have used your most valuable screen space to say nothing.
Replace it with the plain version: what you do, where you do it, and one concrete proof point. "Modular kitchens designed and installed across Undri and NIBM — 140+ homes completed." That single line outperforms any amount of stock imagery.
Make the action match the intent
Most sites offer one action: fill a long form. That asks for maximum commitment from someone who arrived thirty seconds ago. In India, WhatsApp is the lowest-friction path to a conversation, and a visible click-to-call button beats a form for anyone with urgent intent.
- 01A sticky WhatsApp button on mobile with a pre-filled message referencing the page they were on.
- 02A tap-to-call number in the header, not buried in a footer.
- 03A short form — name, phone, one dropdown. Every additional field measurably reduces submissions.
- 04A secondary low-commitment action for researchers: a price guide, a sample, a portfolio.
Cutting a seven-field form to three fields routinely lifts submissions by 30–50%. You can qualify on the call; you cannot qualify someone who never submitted.
Trust is a conversion feature
Indian buyers are cautious and they are right to be. Give them reasons to believe: real photographs of your team and your premises rather than stock, Google reviews embedded with the actual star rating, recognisable client or brand names, certifications, a full address with an embedded map, and a real phone number that a person answers.
The absence of these is felt even when it is not consciously noticed. A site with no address and no faces reads as risky, regardless of how good the design is.
Build pages for the search, not for the menu
If someone searched a specific service and lands on a homepage listing eight services, they have to do work to confirm you do the one they want. Every significant service deserves its own page, with its own heading, its own proof, its own FAQ and its own call to action. This lifts both conversion and rankings for the same reason: relevance.
Then measure, or you are guessing
- GA4 events for form submits, WhatsApp clicks and phone taps — these are your real conversions.
- A heatmap or session recording tool for a fortnight to see where people stop scrolling.
- Search Console to check which queries actually land on each page — mismatch between query and page content is a frequent silent killer.
- One change at a time, with a two-week read, so you know what caused the movement.
Doubling conversion rate from 1% to 2% has the same effect as doubling your traffic, and it is usually faster, cheaper and more permanent. Fix the page before you buy more visitors for it.
